GO BIG for Starlight
Starlight Children's Foundation (Starlight) is challenging Australians to get active and GO BIG in the name of helping sick kids experience a happy childhood this November.
Now in its second year, the Starlight GO BIG Challenge aims to raise $600,000 to help deliver happiness to over 15,000 seriously ill children across Australia.
Local father of 2 and walking enthusiasts Mr Bryce Gibson is planning on doing his bit for sick kids.
In 2016, Bryce and Mellissa Gibson experienced first hand the wonderful work the Starlight children foundation do for sick children, when their daughter Bronte spent 9 weeks in Hospital.
"Bronte was 3 at the time and it was so difficult to keep her mind active while being stuck in a hospital bed in pain (and in traction)" Said Bryce.
"They (Captain starlight) would visit Bronte bedside and do activities with her. After a while it wa the highlight of her stay” said Mellissa.
Serious childhood illness doesn't just impact a child's health. It can turn their whole life upside down, causing them to miss out on spending time with their family, building friendships, going to school and just living their life.
“Australia has one of the best healthcare systems in the world. But sick children and young people need more than the exceptional care that our clinicians can offer. They need the social and emotional support that lets them be a child.” Said Bryce.
This November, I’ll be taking part in the Go Big Challenge and walk as far as I can in 30 days to raise funds for the Starlight Children's Foundation, with a goal of raising $2000.
Starlight use play, social connection and creativity to support sick kids in some of their toughest times and positively change their healthcare experience.
It would mean so much to me if you'd support my challenge because together, we can make a real difference for sick kids.
